The Italian Grand Prix looks set for an intriguing qualifying hour with the leading runners evenly matched in the final session of free practice at Monza on Saturday morning.

Lewis Hamilton's McLaren Mercedes (1:22.498) set the quickest time, just five hundredths quicker than Sebastian Vettel's Red Bull (1:22.545). Fernando Alonso's Ferrari (1:22.644) was third quickest, just four thousandths quicker than team mate Felipe Massa (1:22.648). Jenson Button (1:22.724) was fifth fastest in the second McLaren and Nico Rosberg's Mercedes sixth (1:22.946).

The McLarens once again adopted a split F-duct strategy, with Hamilton running without the device and Button with it.

The only representative of the top three teams missing from the top six was Mark Webber (1:23.082), the Australian again stopping out on the circuit for a second consecutive day due to an engine issue. At the time he stopped, Webber was third quickest.

No one car or driver has proved dominant, with sector one, two and three bests posted by Rosberg, Button and Vettel respectively.

Nico Hulkenberg (1:23.129) continued his impressive display with the first of the Williams Cosworths in eighth place, ahead of Robert Kubica's Renault (1:23.209) and Adrian Sutil's Force India (1.23.303).
