Italian GP - Friday - Practice Session 1 Report
Ferrari quickest at Monza
Ferrari is usually quick at Monza - sometimes amazingly so - and the Italian Grand Prix weekend began with Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa setting the fastest laps of the Friday morning session. The Finn was a tenth faster than the Brazilian but the two were just a tenth quicker than World Championship leader Lewis Hamilton, who made it clear that McLaren is still a force to be reckoned with. Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest but was two tenths behind Hamilton.
The prize for being the best of the rest went on this occasion to Nico Rosberg, while Jenson Button impressed with sixth overall in his Honda, ahead of Giancarlo Fisichella's Renault and the BMWs of Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld. The top 10 was completed by Jarno Trulli's Toyota.
Heikki Kovalainen was next up ahead of Rubens Barrichello, Takuma Sato, Mark Webber, Ralf Schumacher and Alexander Wurz.
Seventeenth overall was Anthony Davidson in the second Super Aguri ahead of the usual tailenders although Adrian Sutil put the new Spyker ahead of the Toro Rosso of Sebastian Vettel and Sakon Yamamoto set the 21st fastest time ahead of a troubled Tonio Liuzzi.
