JAPANESE GP - FRIDAY - PRACTICE SESSION 1 REPORT
Damp and dull
A wet session in Suzuka started the Japanese GP meeting off on a low note as only a dozen drivers were seen in action. Only four of the race drivers did more than one shakedown run and it was left to the test drivers to do the work. Anthony Davidson topped the bill for Honda with a lap of 1m45.349s, seven-tenths of a second ahead of Scuderia Toro Rosso's test driver Neel Jani. BMW's Sebastian Vettel was third ahead of Red Bull's Michael Ammermuller, Spyker's Adrian Sutil. The first regular racer on the list was Scott Speed in his Toro Rosso ahead of Christijan Albers and Toro Rosso test driver Franck Montagny, who ended his morning in the gravel. Williams test driver Alexander Wurz was ninth ahead of Takuma Sato and Sakon Yamamoto. The rest did only in and out laps.
