FRENCH GP - FRIDAY - PRACTICE SESSION 1 REPORT
Pole at front of grid
Robert Kubica gave BMW a good start to the Magny-Cours weekend with the fastest lap in the Friday morning qualifying session, setting a lap time that was three-tenths of a second faster than the Honda of Anthony Davidson. He in turn was 1.3secs ahead of his team mate Jenson Button, an indication of the different set-ups of the cars. Fourth fastest was the Toyota was Ralf Schumacher ahead of MF1 test driver Adrian Sutil, Scuderia Toro Rosso's Neel Jani and Williams's test driver Alexander Wurz.
Jacques Villeneuve was eighth quickest in his BMW ahead of Red Bull Racing's tester Robert Doornbos, Nico Rosberg, Christijan Albers and Jarno Trulli.
None of the major runners did any serious running in the 60 minute session. There were a number of spins but no damage to the cars.
