AUSTRALIAN GP - FRIDAY - PRACTICE SESSION 2 REPORT

No heat and dust

The slippery Albert Park circuit caught out a lot of drivers on Friday afternoon with low temperatures and dusty roads combining to make life difficult for the F1 stars. Once again it was the test drivers who led the way with Honda's Anthony Davidson taking the fastest time of the session after 28 laps of running. Williams's Alexander Wurz was 0.010s behind at the end of the day with Robert Kubica of BMW third. The fastest of the race drivers was Jenson Button in his Honda, who completed just 12 laps in the second session but was three-tenths faster than his rival Fernando Alonso. Two-tenths behind him was Michael Schumacher's Ferrari with Kimi Raikkonen, Rubens Barriichello, Juan Pablo Montoya and Felipe Massa completing the top 10. There were no major technical failures in the session but a number of drivers had incidents, the most damaging being spins for Christijan Albers (Midland-Toyota) and Tonio Liuzzi (Scuderia Toro Rosso), who both ended up in the wall, although the damage in both cases was minimal.

After the session BMW revealed that Jacques Villeneuve will be changing his engine overnight and so will drop 10 places on the grid.
