BRITISH GP - FRIDAY - PRACTICE SESSION 1 REPORT
De La Rosa leads the way
Pedro de la Rosa set the pace in the first session at Silverstone on Friday morning, lapping nine-tenths of a second quicker in his McLaren than Ricardo Zonta's Toyota. The two test drivers were as usual at an advantage as the race drivers were saving their engines. The fastest of the racers was Jenson Button in his BAR-Honda who was just ahead of Kimi Raikkonen, Ralf Schumacher's Toyota, Juan Pablo Montoya's McLaren and Michael Schumacher's Ferrari. The top 10 was completed by Takuma Sato (BAR-Honda), Rubens Barrichello (Ferrari) and Felipe Massa (Sauber).
Williams was again struggling in the midfield while Renault did not run at all in order to save engine life, the same excuse that kept Jarno Trulli in the garage.
