Ferrari confirms Massa

Ferrari has confirmed today that it has renewed Felipe Massa for the 2013 season.

There has been much speculation throughout the season about the Italian team looking to replace Massa, as he struggled early on to match the pace of his team mate Fernando Alonso. There had even been rumours mid-season that Ferrari was looking to re-hire 2007 World Champion Kimi Raikkonen to the squad.

But a recent resurgence in Massa's form, with his first podium in the Japanese GP since 2010, has secured the Brazilian driver with another season with the team, continuing to partner Alonso.

Massa joined Ferrari in 2006, and finished second in the championship to Lewis Hamilton in 2008. He has scored 11 wins with the team, but has struggled with inconsistent form after an accident in which he suffered a fractured skull in qualifying for the Hungarian GP in 2009, when a spring which came off a competitors car hit his helmet.
