Newey escapes Snetterton shunt

Red Bull technical director Adrian Newey was hospitalised for check-ups after being T-boned in a Ginetta supporting race at the British Touring Car Championship round at Snetterton in England.

Newey is a car enthusiast whose stable boasts a number of exotic cars, including a Ford GT40. He was driving the guest Ginetta G50 in the Snetterton race when he was spun broadside into the path of another driver and suffered a hefty impact in the passenger door. The race was red-flagged and Newey was removed from the car on a stretcher before being taken to hospital.

Newey had a sizeable accident in the GT40 at Le Mans some time ago and although it is drivers whose contracts often forbid dangerous hobbies (Juan Pablo Montoya famously injured his shoulder playing 'tennis' when he was a McLaren driver) given the way the Formula 1 world championship is poised at the moment, it is not unfeasible that Christian Horner might just ask Newey to curtail his competitive instincts away from the drawing board until the end of November!
