F1 is booming in Spain

Fernando Alonso's success is causing a boom in interest in F1 in Spain, similar to the boom the sport has enjoyed in Germany thanks to the success of Michael Schumacher. More than 10 million Spaniards watched Alonso become the country's first World Champion on Sunday, making the Brazilian GP the most viewed sporting even of the year, outstripping even soccer which traditionally dominates the ratings. This amounted to an audience share of nearly 75% of all TV viewers at the time.
