BRDC financial controller charged with embezzlement
Stephen Beattie, formerly financial controller of the British Racing Drivers Club, which owns the UK's Silverstone racing circuit, has appeared at Towcester Magistrates Court on embezzlement charges. Beattie is alleged to have stolen $295,000 using club cheques made out in his name between October 2002 and July 2004. Beattie was dismissed by the club in September 2004 when financial irregularities came to light. Beattie has been ordered to appear at Northampton Crown Court on September 12.
