Ralf hits the wall
On Friday afternoon Ralf Schumacher had virtually the same accident as 12 months ago when he crashed his Toyota at Turn 13, the fastest corner on the Indianapolis F1 circuit. On this occasion the German spun once before going into the wall and thus the impact was slightly less than the crash last year which left the German with vertebrae injuries. In addition the crash impact was absorbed by the safety barriers which were extended after last year's crash.
The crash came just minutes after the third Toyota driver Ricardo Zonta suffered a tyre failure in Turn5 and spun into the gravel trap there.
The practice session was red-flagged.
