Zanardi to drive at the Lausitzring

There will be much emotion next weekend at the Lausitzring in Germany where Alex Zanardi, the double CART champion who drove for Williams in 1999, is returning for a symbolic appearance at the wheel of a car which will carry the same livery at the one in which he crashed at the German track in September 2001. Zanardi lost both legs in the crash and nearly during a frantic rush to hospital in Berlin. Zanardi, who now walks with artificial legs, will drive a specially modified CART car fitted with hand controls and will complete the 13 laps which he had remaining in the race two years ago.
