Gommendy bids for glory

The little-known French Formula 3 Champion Tristan Gommendy won the Macau Grand Prix on Sunday. Gommendy ran second early in the race but then managed to overtake Finland's Heikki Kovalainen on stayed ahead all the way to the chequered flag. Third place went to Japanese champion Takashi Kogure. Britain's big hope Robbie Kerr crashed out of the race on the first lap. Gommendy also set the fastest lap of the race although this was slower than the lap record.

Gommendy told a news conference after the race that his aim is to drive in Formula 1 and said that he hoped the win in Macau would draw him to the attention of teams. At the moment the youngster has no plans in place for next season.
