Second generation racers

IT is not big news that there are second, third and even fourth generation (Andretti) racing drivers but we have not seen many sons of Formula 1 engineers making much of an impression as racing drivers. However that may be about to change as Charlie Kimball embarks on a career in the Skip Barber Formula Dodge National Championship.

Kimball is the son of former Benetton F1 technical director Gordon Kimball, who has no been involved in F1 in recent years, preferring to work in California as a consultant designer doing freelance work (including, it is believed, some confidential F1 projects) and overseeing his sons career in karting.

In his first race at Laguna Seca Kimball Jr. qualified eighth and finished 10th.
