DHL Jordan Honda launches EJ12

AS expected, Jordan announced international carrier DHL as its title sponsor at the launch of the new EJ12 in a Brussels airport hangar on Friday. The red DHL logo will run on the side pods of the EJ12, in deep contrast to the team's signature yellow, and the team will race under the name DHL Jordan Honda.

"This is an exciting and historic day for the team," said Eddie Jordan. "After two excellent years working with Deutsche Post WorldNet, we have reached an agreement with them whereby their DHL brand becomes the title sponsor of our team. There is much talk of tough times in Formula One, but this agreement demonstrates that our sport continues to provide an excellent global marketing platform.Ê We are very much looking forward to the year ahead together racing as DHL Jordan Honda."

Eddie also thanked Gallaher Ltd., whose Benson and Hedges brand was the previous title sponsor, but is lessening their support as tobacco advertising is squeezed out of the sport.

The EJ12 was first seen on the track a month ago, and has been tested in Spain and England since by Giancarlo Fisichella and Takuma Sato. The cars will now be prepared for shipment to Melbourne for the first round of the 2002 season, for which practice begins in one week.
