Trulli sets pace in Silverstone again

THE Silverstone circuit was busy Tuesday with teams conducting final preparations for the season opening Australian GP. Jaguar and BAR joined the test Tuesday, alongside Renault, Arrows and Jordan, who also ran Monday.

Jarno Trulli set the pace for the second day in a row in the new Renault R202, and teammate Jenson Button joined in Tuesday in the other new chassis. Trulli completed 42 laps and Button 46, conducting final systems checks.

"We concentrated on long runs today, without any set-up work at all, and managed almost 50 laps during a number of long runs," said Button. "I'm optimistic for tomorrow, and looking forward to running in the new car which I will use in Australia."

Heinz-Harald Frentzen continued testing in the Arrows A23, and was joined Tuesday by teammate Enrique Bernoldi. Frentzen only managed 10 laps of the British circuit, but posted the second fastest time of the day behind Trulli's.

The other Cosworth-powered team, Jaguar, spent its first day in Silverstone with Pedro De la Rosa behind the wheel of the R3. The Spaniard completed 38 laps of the circuit, with the revised chassis they debuted in Valencia last week, which features a new floor and rear suspension design.

The two Honda-powered teams fielded two cars each in Silverstone on Tuesday. Giancarlo Fisichella and Takuma Sato were busy for Jordan, while Jacques Villeneuve and Anthony Davidson tested for BAR. Villeneuve will head to Paul Ricard in France on Wednesday, to take over testing duties from teammate Olivier Panis, who has been conducting development work on the Honda RA002E powerplant.

Testing in Silverstone will resume Wednesday.
