Testing moves to Barcelona

FOUR teams began testing at the Circuit de Catalunya near Barcelona on Monday, where fog delayed any running for over an hour in the morning. When the fog finally cleared, Jarno Trulli set the fastest time of the day in the new Renault R202.

Renault technical director Mike Gascoyne commented, "After a frustrating morning, which was cut short by several minor technical problems, Jarno managed to complete a productive afternoon's work, and was once again pleased with the consistency and responsiveness of the new car".

Trulli will return Tuesday for more development work with the R202, and will be joined by teammate Fernando Alonso, who will be behind the wheel of a R201.

Arrows tested for the first time since rear wing attachment problems caused two accidents for Heinz-Harald Frentzen in Valencia last week. Enrique Bernoldi conducted testing in the new A23, and completed 16 trouble-free laps.

Jordan fielded two EJ12s in Barcelona Monday. Takuma Sato worked on engine mapping and aerodynamic development, and Marcel Lasee tested the second EJ12, allowing Giancarlo Fisichella to rest after last week's accident in Valencia, where he bruised his knee.

Alex Yoong worked on development in the first Minardi PS02 chassis, and Australian Mark Webber conducted two shakedown laps in the second PS02. Both Yoong and Webber will be in action on Tuesday.
