Head promotes youngsters to aerodynamic role

THE departure of chief aerodynamicist Geoff Willis from Williams was the latest in a series of successful poaching attempts on the team and, as usual, Williams technical director Patrick Head has promoted from within his current engineering staff, nominating two young aerodynamic engineers to replace Willis.

Jason Somerville and Nick Allcock will share Willis's old job as chief aerodynamicist at Williams. They will work with Gavin Fisher, the Williams chief designer, on the design of the 2002 Williams-BMW FW24 which will then be developed with input from the team's chief of track engineering Sam Michael.

All the engineers will report to Head.
