Webber signs for Benetton as test-driver

AUSTRALIAN Mark Webber has signed a deal to become the official test driver with Benetton next season.

Webber was contracted to test for Arrows this year, but he only put the 1999 car through its paces and did not test this year's car after a contractual disagreement.

Currently driving for European Arrows in the F3000 championship, Webber will now test for Benetton in 2001. He is getting a preliminary test with the team this week at the French circuit Danielson.

Webber will test the car at Danielson until Friday, when Alexander Wurz will take over. The team will concentrate on aerodynamic testing at the circuit which is mainly just a straight and where no relevant times are set.
