Herbert confirms Champ Car move

JOHNNY HERBERT has confirmed his retirement from Formula One after announcing he will move into Champ Car racing next year.

The Jaguar driver, who attended last weekend's CART FedEx Championship event in Michigan in the hope of sealing a drive for 2001, confirmed at a press conference in Germany that he will leave Formula One.

"I've decided that I will go to the American CART series next year," Herbert said. "Obviously I've got to sign a contract for a drive but that's what I want to do next year."

The 36-year-old's seat with the Milton Keynes-based team has been a subject of intense speculation this season after grid newcomers Jaguar failed to live up to their pre-season billing.
