Irvine to be released from hospital

EDDIE IRVINE will be released from hospital in London on Sunday after tests allayed fears that he had appendicitis.

Irvine, who pulled out of Sunday's Austrian Grand Prix on Friday after complaining of stomach pains, will not need immediate surgery but his condition will be monitored over the next few days.

A statement from his Jaguar team read: "After undergoing extensive tests at a London hospital, doctors have stated that there is no immediate cause for concern over Eddie Irvine's condition after he was admitted to hospital on Friday suffering from abdominal pains.

"Doctors have stated that there is no need for Irvine to undergo any form of surgery at present. He will be released from hospital with 24 hours and will return for tests early next week. Irvine hopes to be back in the car for the German Grand Prix."
