The 1996 F1 calendar

THE International Automobile Federation (FIA) has finally published its definitive calendar for the 1996 Formula 1 World Championship and, as we suggested a couple of weeks ago, there is to be a European Grand Prix at the Nurburgring in April. The Pacific Grand Prix has been canceled as expected - although the Japanese circuit will be hosting a round of the International Touring Car Championship in August. The season, which begins on March 10, will end at Suzuka seven months and three days later after 16 races on five continents. The full calendar is:

March 10Australian GPMelbourne

March 31Brazilian GPInterlagos

April 7Argentine GPBuenos Aires

April 28European GPNurburgring

May 5San Marino GPImola

May 19Monaco GPMonte Carlo

June 2Spanish GPBarcelona

June 16Canadian GPMontreal

June 30French GP Magny-Cours

The only apparent question mark is over Estoril, and whether the Portuguese fail to build a new media center - which the FIA is insisting. If the work is not done, there could be a race at Jerez, which is nominated as the reserve event.
