Stirling Moss (80) suffered a serious accident over the weekend as a result of a malfunctioning lift. The lift doors opened while the lift was still on the floor above, and Moss fell three floors and broke both his ankles, four broken bones in his feet, as well as damage to his vertebrae, but did not suffer any internal injuries.

Moss was admitted to a the London Hospital, but was later moved to the Princess Grace Hospital on the advice of Professor Sid Watkins and was then operated on. It is hoped that he will be moved out of intensive care today.

Moss is widely considered to be the greatest driver never to win the World Championship.
