Lionel Froissart first met Ayrton Senna in 1978 when Senna left Brazil for the first time and came to Europe to race karts. The two remained close and moved up to Formula 1 in the same era, Froissart reporting on the F1 scene for the French daily newspaper Liberation. He wrote a book on Senna in 1990 but has since steered clear of the subject, apart from a cartoon story of his life, published in 2002. Froissart has chosen a rather different approach to the story and has told the story of Senna's life through the eyes of those who were close to him, with a seres of chapters covering everything from his early days in karting until his death at Imola on May 1 1994. It covers all of the best known parts of the Senna story but also throws new light on other stores, such as Senna's negotiations with Ferrari in 1986 and again in 1990 and even of his discussions with Jean Todt in 1993. An interestiing book - if you can read French.
